How to Qualify for the EPT: Beating the $22 Rebuy

This is part six in a seven-part series articlefrom Pierre Neuville, a Serial Qualifier of EPT.

The complete list of the articles is below

The $22 qualifier Rebuy EPT on PokerStars is one of the trickiest tournaments simply because the EPT seats you can get are limited; just one or two.

This article aims to help you get profits for what you invest.

Step 1: Understand all parts of this tournament

The first step: Differentiate the two un-similar tournament parts.

Part A: Re-buy period

Your goal in this stage is survive as long as you can economically, while building your stack simultaneously, so as to have a good count of chips for the blinds that continue to increase.

The final 10 minutes prior the add-on period, can be highly expensive considering the speed of rising blinds.

At the starting stages of that re-buy period, it's possible to re-buy twice and double the stack you have to a whopping 20,000 incase you've got the chance.

During this period however, playing economically is one of your weapons; meaning you cannot afford flipping for 5,000 or even 6,000 chips. These are not going to make your qualifying chances better.

The sole goal you have to hold to is to reach the add-on period with minimal spending.

You can achieve this by adopting a playing mode that is quite unusual- basically, you do not "play" during this period.

You simply "survive economically", see the fewest flops possible and act on maximizing your return incase there is a chance.

You must do re-buys one at a time incase you are in the period known as pre-add-on, then fight to survive until the moment you are going to encounter a flop that is certain to quadruple you.

Benefit One of This Add-On Stage: Money Is Shared Between Fewer Players

You are through to this important add-on stage; half of all players are cut off. The cash prize now is divided up among fewer players.

We can have one outstanding ROI in this game if we keep strong and all the time play through into add-on time.

As a matter of fact, the tournament does not commence till this stage, and the basic advantage is that the cash is shared among fewer players.

Part B: Add-On Stage

The add-on here is 50,000 chips, with every player starting a fresh tournament with everyone having the same stack- usually between 55,000 and 100,000 or even more.

Another thing to note here, payout spots totaling €500 are available in few quantities in these games on top of the final winner.

If you dream of an outstanding return, be on the lookout for this bubble prior to risking needed for winning the part of the tourney known as "winner takes all"

In conclusion

Essentially, $22 re-buy tourneys are in three parts.

1)     Part one, the goal is to reach add-on stage, and with the least expense possible.

2)     Part two is betwixt the add-on stage and what we have called money bubble (where there are additional payout spots) and here it's possible to get some small returns on what you've invested.

3)     The stage known as "winner takes it all". The battle for qualification commences here, once all payouts are done with.

All the stages need different strategies according to the period.

In-case your standard re-buy is constant at €240, the tourney is extremely profitable incase you win a single one in 12.

All the best!
