The five mental mistakes through which you kill you're winning rate at poker

Mental mistakes are largest reasons as to why beginner poker winners cannot beat the poker game. These mental mistakes will no doubt damage your rate of winning. It is possible for beginner poker winners to still beat the poker game, but this will not happen unless they stop making the critical mistakes below.

  • Prolonging play while stuck

When an inexperienced poker player is losing, they imagine they may get even by playing longer. Losing and trying to get even eventually damages your game. During long play, you are susceptible to tilt. When losing, you are definitely not at your best play. Not playing your best poker only means you are tilting.

  • Booking wins by early quitting

This is the opposite of the first error above; it is booking wins in a premature stage. This normally happens to players who have come out from a downswing, but if it turns into a habit then there is a big problem. Taking this and putting it with playing long games while stuck, it becomes an enormous problem. This is because, you will probably be taking part in two thousand hands when stuck and lose in them, but pick up early wins of 300 hands. You will end up losing more often than you win.

Just like all other sports, confidence is vital in poker. You need to keep at it if you're playing your best poker and recording wins, this way you are ultimately playing poker for wins. Quitting when it is at its best is leaving more money at the table as you quit too early in the game.

  • Making poor selection of games

When it comes to poker, you do not necessarily have to be the best of the best to win at it. All you need to do is be better than the majority of your opponents at a table. You need to out time in to get yourself the best table for you, this way you will not end up making grave mistakes by sitting at just any table.

In case you take time to find a table, but still end up at a not so good table, you can quit the game and look for another table. You need to be able to know when a table goes bad to keep your winning rates up.

  • EV play making against your great judgment

This is one of the highest win rate killers.  This normally takes play when it is close to the end of an online poker sessions where you just want the game to end and thus you are not giving it your all. You are faced with a large bet and you have a rare bluff opponent and you still decide to pull a bluff catcher by calling. If you feel that your opponent may not be bluffing, do not call in order to find out, trust your gut instinct. The best thing to do is range your opponent and fold.

Making EV calls can make you get stuck on games of small stakes.

  • Making bad bluffs

As much as bluff is needed in a game, you need to know when to make them as bad bluffs can destroy your game. You need to represent a hand with every bluff. If you do not do so, you will be caught by a good player.

You need to bluff with clear thought on the hand you are representing and whether the bluffs are really called for. If they are not, you need to think of a plan B like equity on overcards or shots on the gut.

You need to have a backup plan before you bluff, this way, you can still hit a long shot even after a call on your bluff and ultimately win the hand.

If you are looking for a true way to kill your win rate, then the above mental mistakes will get you there. It is important to stay focused on the poker table and break often in order to concentrate more. Do not try to multi task while playing, remember that poker is business like any other and should be treated like so.
