Handling Rebuy Poker Tournaments
As a player in a poker tournament, you play with what is known as a freeze out structure. This simply means that the moment you lose all of your chips, the tournament is over. This is what distinguishes a tournament from a cash game. In the cash game, you can keep on buying chips as long as you want, provided you have the money to purchase them. In the case of a rebuy tournament, the situation is slightly different.
A rebuy tournament has a different working mechanism in that you simply start out with a given number of chips, usually a little less than you would get normally for a given buy in. Literally, once a multi rebuy tournament commences, any time you have the set starting amount of chips or even less, you are at liberty to rebuy for an amount that is equal to the initial starting amount. This means that if you go broke in any instance, you can always do double rebuy. One rebuy would be to get you to the set starting amount, while the other would be for getting the normal rebuy.
Understand that this rebuy period does not last eternity; literally, whoever had the biggest amount of cash would always win every game. The rebuy period naturally ends either after the first hour of full play or after two to three rounds of play. After the rebuy period comes to an end, players have permission to do either a single or a double add on. This is primarily one last buy that a player can make irrespective of the quantity of chips they have.
Most players like the rebuy tournaments more-so when it is the no limit hold'em. This is because if they by any chance get drawn out on, or maybe make a mistake early on for their chips they do not get eliminated. Some players however, mostly those with more money misuse this privilege by playing too loose. For this reason, it is important you play tight, and preferably do not bluff during this rebuy period of the tournament. It is always difficult for opponents to feel intimidated when they know that they can simply buy themselves back into the game.
It is important you figure out that you might an amount about fives times of the buy in question for you to really compete. One would go to the initial buy the second one would cover you if you get busted, then there is the double add on. There is that group of players who try avoiding taking any rebuys, hoping that compared to the other players, they are going to invest less money to win a given big prize. However, it is always difficult when a player works hard to either double or triple their stack, only to find out that the opponents have literally rebought and closed in.
There is that group of players who prefer to hold off this rebuy option till they go broke, so that they can increase their opportunities of staying in the game. Others, however, prefer rebuying immediately to ensure they get enough chips, so that they can maximize them in any double up situation. Whatever you prefer literally depends on your playing style and the amount you are willing to invest.
