No-Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Game Strategy | Fixing your redline: playing fewer tables

Fixing your redline: playing fewer tables

Something good about playing poker online is that you can play different tables at a go.

Online gives you the chance to play not only 20 hands an hour, but you can also get 1000 hands more.

More hands in a span of one hour is a plus, but this does not mean there isn't even a single negativity, there is. If you play many tables, you will give every table less attention.

Let us say for example, your winning rate is three large bets per 100 hands a big size the moment you play on the table. If you make the tables you play double, you normally increase the cash you make, you double it precisely.

You cannot continue to double your tables and still keep getting a lot of cash. Finally, as you continue to double your tables, you make your game even worse.

You will not have the chance to think about every decision you want to make. You will find yourself rushing decisions to act on the tables. You will find yourself sliding into the auto pilot.

Auto pilot is a main factor of a redline which is sloping downwards. The moment you stop thinking is when you trip into the auto pilot.

The moment when you cannot think wisely about your decisions, you will make a lot of mistakes.

You are no longer thinking 'my opponent is very tight and he can possibly peel with 99 on '.you are just thinking of how you raised the pre-flop that you c-bet.

You do not have any idea that if you c-bet a particular board you can fire several barrels.

Therefore, the moment you c-bet, the flop, and your opponent call, you shut down on the turn. Actually, you fold when he bets the river. Now all you did is waste a huge amount of cash as well as hurt your redline.

Now think about doing the same on 10 tables for 2 or more hours. The same situation is likely to repeat itself, and if you are not on auto pilot, you will be making huge mistakes throughout the entire session.

The moment your session has got a lot of mistakes, the winning rate (particularly your non-showdown win rate) is automatically affected.

The number of tables you should be playing

You are the one to determine the number of tables you should be playing. And think about the decision you make.

Some players can actually play 12 tables at the same time without going on auto pilot while others find it really hard.

You are the best person to make your decision on the number of tables that are best for you.

What if I get more with a lesser win rate and also more tables?

It does not really take time to know if you win at 3BB/100 playing two tables or winning at 2BB/100 playing eight tables, and your aim is to make money then get to the eight tables.

If on the other hand, your main aim is to up your game in poker, then it is better to be in the short run playing at fewer tables and making less cash, but playing good poker.

When you extremely multi-table, you can make a lot of cash, but your poker will not improve at all.

Your objectives are entirely your decision. You need to ask yourself the question if you want to improve your game or you just want to make a lot of cash and deteriorate in your poker.

If you decide on improving your poker, then it is wise to play fewer tables and be very keen.

You will get very little cash in the short term but it is good since you will become a better player. And you will also have a nice rising redline.
